Ingredients
- 1 Pkg Bell & Evans Smokey Apple Breakfast Chicken Sausage
- 1 TB Olive oil
- 1/4 cup Unsalted butter, melted, plus more for pan
- 1 (16-oz) loaf Challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 Fiji apple, seeded and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 3 cups Whole milk
- 2/3 cup Brown sugar
- 6 large Eggs
- 1 TB Ground cinnamon, divided
- 2 TB Sugar
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Maple syrup, for serving
Preparation
- Heat the oil in a large straight-sided skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, flipping occasionally, until golden-brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F, about 14-18 minutes. Slice into 1/4-inch coins and set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350°F and coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter. Toss the bread cubes, sausage and apples together in prepared baking dish. Drizzle with the melted butter.
- Whisk the milk, brown sugar, eggs and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon together in a large bowl until combined. Pour milk mixture over bread. Allow bread to soak for 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, combine sugar and remaining cinnamon together. Sprinkle casserole with cinnamon sugar mixture. Bake until casserole is set and golden-brown, about 40-45 minutes. Let cool for 20 minutes.
- Dust with the powdered sugar. Slice and serve with the maple syrup.
