We had the pleasure of hosting four representatives from the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) last week. I showed them our further processing and packaging facility and took them on a tour of our new organic certified, animal-welfare-focused Chicken Hatchery. We also took time to sit and talk about animal welfare initiatives. It was a nice visit!

ASPCA Visits Bell & Evans May 2018

Most meat processors would shy away from inviting animal welfare advocates into its facilities, but I was happy to spend half a day with the ASPCA. I respect their work and appreciate their willingness to meet with a meat processor to share knowledge. They showed respect for my business and didn’t come to promote a vegan-only lifestyle. In many ways, we want the same thing – a healthy, stress-free life for broiler chickens.

At Bell & Evans, we promote the industry’s highest animal welfare standards. We’re continuously innovating and improving our practices for the better of our birds. We can always do better and having conversations with other animal-welfare-minded organizations helps us learn from one another. Thanks to the ASPCA for this opportunity.

Thank you for the manner in which you care for the chickens. It all filters down to the taste of good chicken. Your chicken is the ONLY chicken I buy and share it with many family and friends. Please continue to do what you do. Chickens need to be treated kindly and need to scratch and dig for bugs. Like the good old days. Thank you
